This embroidery style emerged during the 16th Century. One of the major features is the “Tree of Life” motif which is an ancient symbol. This motif has had a significant symbolic meaning to humanity for thousands of years, worldwide. We will explore its iconography and trace its life in its various guises in different art forms from primitive to man today. We will come to an appreciation of the meaning and origin of this most popular of motifs.
